Man, 30, charged over ‘hit-and-run’ crash that killed two-year-old boy and saw four adults raced to hospital
A man has been charged in connection with the death of a two-year-old boy after a hit-and-run collision, West Midlands Police said.
Sharjeel Shahzad, 30, was arrested yesterday following a two car collision in Dartmouth Road just before 11pm on Saturday in Smethwick.
A 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man who were in the same vehicle as the boy are still in a serious condition in hospital after the incident.
The force had previously launched a manhunt for the driver of a grey Porsche Cayenne, which are worth around £80,000.
The man has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Police and paramedics were called to Dartmouth Road, in Smethwick, West Midlands, following a collision between the two cars on Saturday night
He has also been charged with driving whilst disqualified, and driving with no insurance and failing to stop after a collision.
He has been remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on tomorrow, the force said.
West Midlands Police are currently offering their support to those involved.
