Jordan Peterson says he’s fleeing Canada and warns his home nation is on verge of ‘totalitarian hell’

Controversial Canadian psychologist, author and former professor Jordan Peterson claimed he is fleeing his home country for America, slamming Canada for being on the brink of becoming a ‘totalitarian hell.’

Peterson, 62, revealed his plans to come to the US, citing discontent with Canada’s government and ongoing conflict with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.

‘The government in Canada at the federal level is incompetent beyond belief and it’s become uncomfortable for me in my neighborhood in Toronto,’ Peterson said on his daughter Mikhaila’s podcast earlier this month.

He acknowledged there are ‘decided advantages’ to living in Canada, such as being close to his daughter, but said the political climate is ultimately too much for him to bear.

‘The new legislation that the liberals are attempting to push through, Bill C-63, I’d just be living in a totalitarian hell hole if that legislation passes, and it could well pass,’ Peterson explained.

Bill C-63, the Online Harm Act, aims to ‘address a range of harmful content online as well as hate speech and hate crimes both online and offline,’ according to the Canadian Government

The bill proposes the establishment of a ‘regulator regime’ to monitor social media to limit harmful or inappropriate content.

The government defines harmful content as anything that ‘sexually victimizes a child or revictimizes a survivor, intimate content communicated without consent, content used to bully a child, content that induces a child to harm themselves.’

Content that instigates hatred, violence, extremism or terrorism also fall into the that category.

The bill would increase the penalty for hate propaganda crimes and create a new offense for general hate crimes.

Bill C-63 would also ‘improve the mandatory reporting of child pornography by persons who provide an internet service.’

The nonpartisan Centre for International Governance Innovation said that some people believe the bill ‘doesn’t do that much’ and only ‘proposes a slightly modified version of the self-regulation status quo.’

The British Columbia Civil Liberties Association is ‘alarmed’ by the bill because parts of it could establish ‘draconian rules.’

The group expressed concerns about B-63’s potentially ‘chilling effects on free expression meaning that people may fear speaking out even when they have a constitutional right to do so.’

Peterson said another factor driving him out of Canada is his ‘annoying’ situation with the College of Psychologists.

The former University of Toronto professor was investigated by the College of Psychologists of Ontario because he received complaints about his online behavior.

Peterson was banned from Twitter in 2022 after he shared a post about transgender actor Elliot Page, referring to Page by the wrong pronouns and his former name.

The post read: ‘Remember when pride was a sin? And Ellen Page just had her breasts removed by a criminal physician.’

Twitter flagged the post and said it violated the platform’s rules about hateful conduct.

The conservative professor then doubled down on his post about Page soon after sharing the original comment.

‘See, I would’ve left Ellen Page alone if she hadn’t been parading her new abs in a fashion magazine,’ Peterson told podcaster Kyle Kulinski on his Krystal Kyle & Friends show.

‘How many kids do you think she convinced to convert, one? A thousand?’

Before making comments about Page, Peterson came under fire for body-shaming a Sports Illustrated model.

He posted a photo of plus-sized model Yumi Nu and wrote: ‘Sorry. Not beautiful. And no amount of authoritarian tolerance is going to change that.’

Defending his comment to The Telegraph, Peterson said: ‘The use of that model, who was not athletic (remember: SPORTS Illustrated) was manipulative economically and in relation to the model herself (although she participated in her own exploitation).

‘Beauty is an ideal. Almost all of us fall short of an ideal. I’m not willing to sacrifice any ideal to faux compassion. Period. And certainly not the ideal of athletic beauty.’

Peterson has also slammed Canadian Prime minister Justin Trudeau online, and he claimed that the College of Psychologists forced him to complete social media training for his criticism of the politician.

His appeal against the college’s mandated training was dismissed earlier this year by a panel at the Ontario Court of Appeal.

Peterson wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that he has been given no choice but to ‘capitulate to the petty bureaucrats and addle-pated woke mob’ or risk losing his license to practice.

‘Mark my words, however: the way has barely started. There is nothing you can take from me that I am unwilling to lose,’ he posted following the ruling.
