I’m a flight attendant… here is my biggest bug bear committed by travellers on long haul flights

A flight attendant has revealed the most annoying thing travellers do when embarking on long-haul flights.

Skye Taylor, 49, from Southampton, spent 17 years working as a stewardess, starting out at low-cost airlines to eventually work her way up the career ladder and land a job at Virgin Atlantic.

However, after hanging up her wings a little over a year ago, Ms Taylor is sharing secrets from her previous line of work.

Now, she has shared what behaviour from flyers is her biggest ‘bug bear’ her most on long-haul flights – only it is far more wholesome than you think.

She said that she feels bad on a long flight if passengers avoid uncomfortable speaking to cabin crew out of social anxiety or fear of awkwardness.

Skye said: ‘If you’ve got a long long flight don’t stay silent. I would rather someone come up to me and say ‘I’m cold can you get me an extra blanket or can you turn up the air con’ than sit there and be cold the whole flight. That’s my biggest bug bear.

‘I’ll always just check with people as well, ‘are you warm enough’, you know, it’s just a polite thing to do.

‘You know what it’s like on a train, I’m terrible on a train, they’re either freezing us to death, and I think its the same when you’re doing a long haul flight.

‘People are not used to that on their body, for us, we don’t ever really get used to it, but we’re more equipped to deal with it.

‘And I just think, no, please don’t. I couldn’t imagine somebody sitting there for 10 hours and being so cold.’

She added that, in her experience, the temperature on board the aircraft can vary

Sky explained: ‘Certain spots on the aircraft will be colder than others as well. So always, if you’re flat by the door, you’re going to be cold the whole flight. Okay. Yeah, you might have more leg room, but you will be colder.

‘So always double up there as well, definitely.’

It comes after Skye shared the simple mistake on a plane could get you a lifetime ban from flying.

Skye previously told MailOnline: ‘I was watching one TikTok the other day, and I was absolutely horrified.

‘An influencer stepped over the markings [on the runway], the safety area, and everyone was like ‘oh wow, that’s incredible’.

‘But she was right near the engine, it was ridiculous.’

The former flight attendant was however left even more aghast by another influencer.

She said: ‘I’ve seen quite a lot of other things that makes me think, ‘Oh my God!’

‘In another video an influencer was like writing on the mirror or something in the bathroom – and I was just like that could end up as a massive security risk.

‘Because it has been known that messages have been left for, you know [dangerous people] and I think a lot of the time people, I don’t want to say it because I’m old, but it’s like a younger generation thing.

‘I think sense goes out the window.

‘It’s safety at the end of the day, something could happen to you or you could put that aircraft in danger, and I’ve seen it a lot.’

Skye believes that some influencers have become more brash and daring just to get others to watch their videos without thinking of the serious consequences.

‘Doing that to get views, that’s ridiculous,’ she continued.

‘It’s crazy, plus you’ll probably get a lifetime ban from flying as well.
