If you’re struggling with going to the bathroom in the morning, even after you’ve drunk a cup of coffee, you might want to listen up.

A naturopathic doctor has revealed three tips to help you get going in the morning, if you know what we mean.

The video was posted recently on TikTok by Dr. Janine Bowring, a Canada-based expert who has over 25 years of experience and clinical research under her belt.

In the new clip, Bowring advised viewers that they should be using the bathroom every single morning – and ‘ideally’ two or three times per day, before launching into her tips.

The first piece of advice that she offered to stimulate a bowel movement was to drink something hot when you first wake up in the morning.

‘This is going to help to stimulate your colon to release its contents,’ Dr. Bowring explained.

And, it looks like the naturopath is on to something here.

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, hot beverages can help to stimulate a bowel movement.

This is because the hot temperature can ‘speed up digestive motility,’ and if it’s a hot coffee or tea, the caffeine can also help to get things moving. 

Next on Dr. Bowring’s list was a tip that was in accordance with ancient Chinese medicine, the doctor said. 

‘The best time to poop is between 7am and 9am, so really getting your circadian biology in tune with the light of the day with sunrise, very important for that early morning poop,’ she said.

And, finally, her last tip also had something to do with the circadian rhythm.

‘Most important is that circadian rhythm timing with the light and dark cycle of the day, so going to bed when it’s dark, and of course, getting off your screens at bedtime,’ she explained.

The doctor also stressed how important it was to keep a ‘regular sleep hygiene schedule.’

‘Even on weekends, get up with the sun, and got to bed soon after dark,’ Dr. Bowring advised.

In the comments section, many users seemed to agree with some of her tips, with some swearing that they worked.

‘Hot water first in the morning has been my routine for years and it never fails,’ one person wrote.

Another agreed, ‘A bottle of room temperature water first thing in the morning works!’

‘I’m bang on. Must be doing something right,’ someone else typed.
