Aussies slam unhinged Christmas Day celebration at Bronte Beach after thousands of revellers leave behind trail of rubbish for a second year in a row – as shocking images reveal extent of chaos
Disgusted Aussies have slammed the trail of destruction left by thousands of boozed-up Christmas day revellers at a popular Sydney beach.
Shocking pictures taken on Boxing Day morning have revealed scenes of utter chaos and carnage at Bronte Beach in the city’s exclusive eastern suburbs.
Thousands of cans, beer and wine bottles, discarded cardboard boxes and empty cooler bags were seen strewn across the usually-pristone grass behind the small but popular beach.
One bikini-clad partygoer was pictured sleeping underneath a towel amid the unholy mess, as council rangers estimated at least ten thousand tourists and backpackers had descended on the area.
Council workers had scrambled to cater for the huge numbers after the mess left last year sparked outrage among the well-heeled locals who call Bronte home.
An extra 250 bins were placed at Bronte Beach and extra toilets and a urinal were installed to deal with the onslaught.
But the measures appear to have had little effect as the area was completely tarnished on Thursday morning.
One appalled local, who has lived in the area for 16 years, filmed the mess left the morning after the night before, claiming she had ‘never seen it like this the day after’.

‘It’s normally cleaned up by this time of day in the past but yesterday was the biggest crowd I’ve seen here,’ she said.
‘it’s unbelievable…it just goes on and on. I hate to think of the cost to clean it all up.’
Another Bronte local said at 10.30pm they witnessed ‘scores of young people coming up Bronte Rd, drunk and the guys pissing in the houses along the street’.
‘I know because my house was one of them. I actually saw 3 men pissing into my home,’ the local wrote online.
‘Sadly by the time I rushed out with a hose they were gone. We were out there hosing down the stairs and pathways and talking to the locals who were equally disgusted and had seen it happening all along the road.’
The woman blasted the police for not taking action and queried why the alcohol-free policy in the area was not enforced.
‘There was no sign of police cars patrolling the area at 10am when we were out cleaning up, but plenty of very drunken young people with very full bladders relieving themselves,’ she added.
One local warned other dog owners to be careful because there was ‘so much smashed glass left on the path’ to the beach.

One Aussie fumed that those ‘who left Bronte Beach looking like a f***ing landfill tip are a disgrace, as is the council not providing enough bins & police not enforcing crowd control’
Another local slammed Waverley City Council mayor Will Nemesh for allowing ‘persistent public drinking and its associated behaviour’, branding it ‘deeply concerning’.
Despite the no-drinking rule, I witnessed groups openly carrying cases of alcohol, cooler boxes, and bags of bottles and cans from early in the morning,’ se said.
‘Many sat on our road drunk, and some even vomited outside our house.’
Mr Nemesh said staff had been out in ‘full force’ from 8pm on Wednesday as clean-up got underway.
‘I have been and will continue to work directly with Council staff to ensure the area is cleaned as fast as possible,’ Mr Nemesh said in a Facebook post late on Wednesday night.

‘Overall the reports from Police, our rangers, additional security and our lifeguards has been positive – there was very minimal anti social behaviour and the extra measures introduced this year have had a positive result compared to previous years.
The event has become a mecca for tourists and backpackers celebrating the holiday away from home and is affectionately known as ‘orphans Christmas’ (pictured, revellers)
The party went on late into the evening
Revellers were seen wheeling in crates of lager
Many donned santa hats and festive garb as the music blasted late into the night
But one local told Daily Mail Australia that they ‘know to stay away from Bronte on Christmas’ so as to avoid the packed beach and surrounding parklands.
Others questioned who would -pick up the bill for the enormous clean-up operation.
‘Who paid for this? Probably us ratepayers,’ one person said.
‘Next time charge each person $20 for the clean up. That’s a cheap day out at an amazing beach.’

Among the vast numbers of foreign bikini and boardie-clad visitors this year was former England Test cricket captain Michael Vaughan.
While the crowd was largely well behaved, concerns about the mess left behind sparked an earlier warning issued from the City of Waverley Council to people planning to spend the day at Bronte Park and beach that authorities would be in attendance.
Councillor Joshua Spicer had previously tried to quell local concerns, saying the council planned to implement new clean-up measures this year.
‘This includes extra rangers, security, and police, a dedicated cleaning crew with more bins and waste trucks,’ he posted online on Tuesday.

NSW Police said officers conducted patrols of Bronte, Bondi and Tamarama beaches ‘due to significant crowd numbers expected over the holiday period’.
‘There will be officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command, assisted by specialist police, tasked to patrol the area to ensure the safety of visitors and manage crowd numbers,’ a spokesperson previously said.
‘People are reminded to check and abide by designated alcohol-prohibited and/or alcohol-free zones in the area. Alcohol and water don’t mix.’
Beachgoers were also warned not to swim or drive boats when intoxicated and said they would have a ‘significant presence’ on the roads and in the water over the festive period.
NSW Police said there were no arrests.
