A man has been arrested after a dog walker was killed in a hit an run just two days before Christmas.

Aaron Jones, 38, was walking his dog near his village home last night when he was struck and killed. 

The incident, which took place in a small country lane in Llanpumsaint, Carmarthenshire, saw the victim left with unsurvivable injuries. 

Police launched a manhunt for the driver of a ‘noticeably damaged’ car after it collided with Aaron Jones in a small Welsh village.

A 27-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop for a collision, and failing to report a collision. 

Dyfed-Powys Police has now confirmed the vehicle believed to be involved in the fatal road traffic collision in Llanpumsaint last night has been located.

The road remains closed. Residents will see an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continues.

The family of the man who died in the collision continue to be supported by specially trained officers. They have asked for privacy at this difficult time.

Mr Jones was described as a ‘lovely guy’ who did lots of work for his local area. 

Local councillor Bryan Davies said the village was ‘so quiet’ following his ‘tragic’ death. 

The crash happened near to Caer Salem Baptist Chapel Llanpumsaint, Carmarthenshire.

A police spokesperson said: ‘The force would like to thank everyone who responded to their appeal with information.

‘The collision happened near to Caer Salem Baptist Chapel sometime between 6.45pm and 7.45pm on Monday, 23 December while the man was walking his dog.

‘Officers are continuing to appeal for anyone travelling in the area at the time who have dashcam on their vehicles, or anyone with a doorbell camera or CCTV to check the footage and get in touch.

‘Anyone with information that could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police.’
